New Nicky da B video looks gorgeous. I love the gay strain of NOLA Bounce (“sissy bounce” to some tho I’ve interviewed Freedia and Nicky and both object to the term) because it’s all about the democratization of butt shots. It’s sexual, but it’s not, and it’s not just naked woman butts but boy butts too. Butts are cool.
My family Le1F in his sexiest video yet (altho am I pnoid if I can’t stop thinking about bacteria while watching this?). Lotta fam in here—Ian Isiah, Junglepussy, Rahel, Lex doing some naked shit with a loofah, Hima doing his “hey I’m in a video” cheesing, and my boyfriend, the only dude who didn’t take off his shirt (hair, bacteria).
I LOVE DAI BURGER.
Best video of 2013. This is my New York. No one is fucking with us right now.
Misa’s “Shake The House” was one of my favorite songs/videos I discovered while researching this piece for SPIN, The 50 Greatest White Girl Rap Moments of All Time. I spent a couple of months going deep into the troubled annals of white women rapping (and listening to “Fly Like a G6,” which I decided I really like, two years post facto). It would be awesome if you would read it!
So I wrote about “gay rapper trend pieces”
Because writing a parody “straight rapper trend piece” was too cheeky for something so important. Basically this piece, which has been stewing in my mind and heart since that p4k post dropped, is about how well-meaning media lumping in a bunch of stylistically disparate rappers like Le1f, Mykki Blanco, House of Ladosha, etc based on their sexual orientation or gender identity is actually condescending and further marginalizing.
NOTE: I WENT THRU EDITS OF THIS WHILE I WAS AT THE GATHERING OF THE JUGGALOS SO YES, I REALIZE IT SAYS “THESE ARTISTS ARE TALENTED AND DESERVE THE ATTENTION” LIKE TEN TIMES. FEEL MY GIST DOE!

I love the music of Mykki Blanco and have a lot going on w/her shit this wknd. First, I had him and her best friend, Physical Therapy, on my radio show this weekend. She freestyled twice and Physical Therapy played THEE best house diva set and we talked a whole bunch and played new shit from Mykki’s new album, as well as Physical Therapy’s—LISTEN HERE. ANNNNND—-I wrote about Mykki’s new video for “Join My Militia” (like my favorite song of quarter 1), which dropped today, over here. AUDRE LORDE AND AN OCTOPUS!
Here is a miraculously-not-shitty Blackberry photo I shot at Waka Flocka’s SPIN cover shoot, real photographer was Jason Nocito. If you haven’t read my story but want to, it is NOW ONLINE!
